Weekday Letter The Metabolic Report

A column, not a clinic

The Metabolic Report

A desk covering satiety, appetite, and metabolic signaling — what the research actually says, in plain English. We don’t run a clinic and we don’t sell a protocol of our own.

Full is a signal, not a personality trait

Most people describe the same gap. The plate is empty. The meal happened. The “enough” message arrives late, or not at all. It is easy to turn that gap into a story about willpower. The literature is less dramatic: satiety is a conversation between the gut and the brain, and conversations drop.

We are not in the business of handing you a diagnosis from a webpage. The interesting question is not “why can’t you stop.” It is “which signal, specifically, is quiet.”

When the borrowed signal leaves

Appetite-suppressing drugs rent a message the body used to write itself. While the rental is active, the noise goes quiet. When the rental ends, the original circuit has not always come back online. That rebound is ordinary in the papers. It is also easy to moralize.

Age is real. So is the habit of using age as a drawer where every late-night kitchen visit goes. A shrug closes the conversation. It does not tell you whether the signal was outsourced, skipped, or simply never named.

If you came here from the Facebook page: this is the same desk. Short notes. Plain English. No protocol for sale in the footer.
